“A kiss on the hand may be quite continental, but diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”  We’re all familiar with those lines.  Are they true?  Perhaps for some!  We say “get gorgeous with diamonds!”  Whether you like a little twinkle or over-the-top sparkle, there is a diamond out there for you!  But, slow down for a second!  Before you buy your big, beautiful bauble, educate yourself on the 4 c’s of diamonds:

• Cut – The angles and proportions that a craftsman has skillfully created in turning the natural, rough diamond into the gorgeous finished product that you find in stores.  The better the cut, the greater the sparkle!
• Color - While diamonds are found in every color of the rainbow, white is the most popular.  The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) rates each certified diamond according to its color.  D is colorless while Z is dark.
• Carat – The weight of the gem.  This is sometimes confused with size, which depends on how the craftsman cuts the diamond.  Larger diamonds appear to sparkle more because their larger area creates a more intense prism effect.
• Clarity – This refers to how pristine the diamond is.  If there are inclusions (dark spots), the diamond will sparkle less because light will reflect and refract less.

There is nothing quite like discovering an artist who illustrates in a style that truly speaks to your soul and sparks your imagination. This is how I feel when I look at the artwork of Gretchen Jakub Fabre. Her online studio, Chichiboulie, is full of treasures for the young and the young at heart.

Gretchen specializes in personalized paintings (both acrylic and watercolor), birth announcements, party invitations, stationery and commissions. Not only am I over the moon about the finished product, but it was a great pleasure working with Gretchen.
